Information regarding the 2010 session will be available by the end of December 2009.
Our Summer Undergraduate Student Research Program is generously supported by two grant awards.
One is the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). The aim of NSF REU program is to attract and expose undergraduates to a career in science with a special focus on interdisciplinary aging research. Under the REU, 7 students participate in an eight-week research program. Students with majors in the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, engineering, and architecture are encouraged to apply for this program.
The second is Summer Clinical Research Experiences in Aging funded by the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging through the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation (BJHF). The aim of the Experiences in Aging program is to attract and expose undergraduates to a research career in geriatric healthcare. Undergraduate students who apply for this program should have a pre-med, nursing, social work, or an allied health major. Under the Experiences in Aging program, 6 students participate in an eight week program.
These programs are coordinated together. Students in both programs will complete a research project under the guidance of a Washington University Center for Aging faculty mentor. In addition, all 13 students meet together in weekly seminars, tours, an ethics retreat, and a poster session.
